The Jewel of the Freshwater Aquarium
The Betta Fish (Betta splendens) is one of the most iconic and visually striking freshwater species in the world. Originating from the warm, slow-moving waters of Thailand and Cambodia, Bettas are known for their vivid colors, elegant fins, and independent nature. Each fish has its own unique pattern and temperament, making them truly one-of-a-kind pets.
Habitat & Care:
Bettas prefer warm water between 26–28 °C and thrive in tanks of at least 15–20 litres with gentle filtration and plenty of hiding spots. As labyrinth fish, they can breathe air directly from the surface, which allows them to live comfortably in shallower or low-oxygen environments. Males are territorial and should be housed alone, while females can live peacefully in small groups.
Diet:
These small carnivores enjoy a protein-rich diet consisting of high-quality Betta pellets, frozen foods, and live treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp. A varied diet helps enhance their coloration and fin health.
Graceful yet spirited, the Betta Fish is perfect for both beginners and experienced aquarists. With the right care, these dazzling fish can live for 3–5 years, bringing color, elegance, and life to any aquarium.
