Description

The Majestic Giant of the Reptile World

The Green Iguana (Iguana iguana) is one of the most iconic and recognizable reptiles in the exotic pet hobby. Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, this impressive lizard is admired for its brilliant emerald coloration, gentle demeanor, and high intelligence. As they grow and mature, Green Iguanas develop a powerful build and can reach lengths of up to 1.5–2 metres, including their long tail.

Habitat & Care:
Green Iguanas are arboreal, meaning they spend much of their time climbing. They require a large vertical enclosure — ideally custom-built — with sturdy branches, platforms, and UVB lighting. Daytime temperatures should range from 28–35 °C, with a basking spot around 38–40 °C and a humidity level between 70–80%. A spacious, clean environment with access to both warmth and moisture is key to their health.

Diet:
Entirely herbivorous, Green Iguanas thrive on a balanced diet of fresh leafy greens, vegetables, and occasional fruits. Avoid animal proteins or processed foods. Calcium and vitamin supplementation are essential for strong bones and vibrant coloration.

Highly social when tamed and handled from a young age, Green Iguanas can become affectionate, intelligent companions that recognize their keepers. With dedicated care and proper housing, these magnificent reptiles can live 15–20 years, making them a long-term and truly captivating addition to any reptile enthusiast’s collection.
